Pacific Tragedy
Silkscreen Fabric, Embroidery, Applique, Fabric
2010-2011

This piece is about the death of the black footed albatross birds in the Pacific/Midway region. Plastic fills the bellies of these birds, causing thousands to die every year. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a fantastical realization of what humans are doing to nature. My portrayal of the plastic trash shows the beauty, colors, and wonder of all the bits and pieces floating in the Pacific trash vortex. Humans surround their worlds in what they find beautiful, which is exactly what becomes of the fate of the albatrosses.
